My Old Neighborhood
One day I went back
back to my old neighborhood,
There someone from my past
smiling at me, He stood.
Cheerfully he said
“Good day how is my fine old friend?”
As to be his hand
he gracefully did extend.
I took his hand in mine
as I stuttered out, “Hello,”
It felt just like a snake
and then his eyes began to glow.
In panic I tried to pull back
but my hand was stuck like glue,
He said, “what’s your hurry
let me reminisce with you.”
He laughed with a growl
and suddenly I could see,
Every earthly desire was smiling
right at me.
He said, let’s look around
and remember all the fun,
When me and you were buddies looking out
for the number one.
I said, “I don’t think so
I must really run along.”
For walking without Jesus
I wasn’t very strong.
My companion also knew it
that’s why so happy was he,
He knew it was his chance
to cast his influence on me.
Over and over I asked myself
Have I lost my bloomin’ mind,
For misery was the only thing
in this old neighborhood I could find.
Every sin was reaching for me
as sweat beaded on my brow,
Temptation was calling my name
I needed help right now.
I screamed out “Lord where are You
You promised to stay by my side.”
He said, “Yes, I did, my friend
that’s why for you I died.
But, when you turned and walked away
back towards your old neighborhood,
I could only hope and pray
your love for me still stood.
I had to wait until you called me
before I could step in,
So, now my peace I give you and
strengthen you against this sin.”
I was pulled from the devil’s lair
rescued by The Father’s Only Son,
Because I did repent
I was forgiven for what I had done.
